Eye-opener

There are 75-79% of parents who are incarcerated in the state of California. That mean nearly over half the kids over there are growing up in a one parent household or is being raised by their grandma/aunt. These are some scary statistics but what is more scary is that probably half of these kids won't ever see their parent inside of those walls and half of them will get a really weird answer as to where their parent is. Some of those kids are going to feel alone abandoned. Which is why my stories will be good for them. Even if you need only just one story for them to help them understand the situation this is the series for them. Help the masses...but a book. :-)

Just Like You

I know its a lot of children out there who don't understand their parent being gone and that a lot of them think that they are the only ones out there dealing with this situation but its not true. I dealt with this situation for 12 years of my life. My dad was in prison from age 2-14 in my life. I didn't tell any of my friends about him being in jail because I was the only one out of them who had a father in prison. I didn't know anyone other than my sisters who were dealing with this situation. I know how it is to feel alone and that NO ONE ELSE will understand. Its not an easy thing for any child to deal with which is another reason why I chose to write my series. It was therapeutic to me and I know that a lot of kids would benefit from the stories. Its no fun believing that their is no one else like you out there. That's why there's me. I'm no different than you.

Reaching Schools

The Not Your Ordinary Family Series wants to bring these stories to your child's school. Care Packages For Kids With Incarcerated Parents

There are over 2 million kids with a parent in the prison system. I want to help at least 100 of them dealing with this situation so I'm creating "care" packages for them. These packages are meant to help build a relationship with their parent and to help comfort them. So if you can help please do. Items Needed

1. 100 notecards w/envelopes
2. 100 book of stamps
3. 100 pens/pencils
4. 100 picture frames (a cute child friendly design on them will be nice)
5. 100 disposable Cameras
6. 100 brand new teddy bears
7. Markers,Crayons,Construction paper (so they can draw pictures and mail them to their parent)
